research interests:

I'm a bioinformatician and my main research interests are the dynamics of transposable elements. I'm especially interested in the factors influencing TE activity for example what is causing differences in the activity of TE families between different populations. Furthermore I'm interested in how TE's shape genome evolution (duplications, translocations), and how TE's may contribute to local adaption. I'm also interested in the effect of TE insertions on gene expression and alternative splicing.

Finally I'm generally interested in the analysis of next generation sequencing data, in the training of students in NGS data analysis and design pattern of reliable software (Gamma, 1995).
